Our Story: How it all Started
The early days: Jesse with a 12-barrel BlueBarrel System, built by workshop participants in 2013.
BlueBarrel was founded by Jesse Froehlich Savou, a northern California native with a long-standing interest in rainwater harvesting.
In 2010, as part of an AmeriCorps assignment with Conservation Corps North Bay, Jesse was tasked with building a 1,500-gallon rainwater catchment system on a limited budget. Using repurposed food-grade barrels, she and her project partners developed a modular design that proved both functional and scalable.
After refining the system through additional home installations and hands-on workshops, Jesse earned her professional rainwater harvesting accreditation from ARCSA and launched BlueBarrel in 2012. What began locally has evolved into a trusted nationwide resource for professionally-designed rainwater harvesting and gravity-fed irrigation systems.
